The one who ended up needing a new tank is doing fine, he's probably one of the least-neurotic bettas I've had. I tend to name mine based on their colours, so right now I have Porferios Pyrros (mostly purple body, red fins) and Albus Livius (white with blue marble fins). Before Albus, I had a red one in his tank who was so neurotic about getting his tank cleaned that he wouldn't eat for two days after I cleaned it, and wouldn't eat at all when I had the filter on; he managed to die of presumed malnourishment a couple of months ago. :-(

Ok, I care a lot about betas. I used to identify them with the greek letters (my first was Alpha,my second Beta, and so on). Beta and Gama lived, respectvely, 5 and 6 1/2 years (and I rescued Gama from a bad owner). So, everything happened well with the tank changing? They stress so much with this kind of thing...

This nymphay thing is very interesting... if yu find time to write more about, I will really like.

That's certainly possible. There may have also been a thread that mentioned Kevin Smith's film Dogma, but don't quote me on that.

The “kevin smith religion” MAYBE can be because the name of the actor who played the god Ares in Xena was Kevin Smith. Who knows?

Yeah, it seems like it's hard to bring up any socio-political issues without it ending up somehow polarising people. Maybe with some people, it's just due to poor word choices, but there's definitely an "element" to this that just seems hard for me to ignore. It's not about dictating people's lives to them, it's about trying to create a better experience for future generations. If "coming out" had a part in helping gays get the rights they have finally gotten (in the few places so far, but I'm optimistic about the rest), it at least makes sense in theory that this can help the rights of religious minorities make strides. It couldn't hurt, either way.

I've really enjoyed your thoughtful commentary on this issue. So far a lot of the stuff I've seen has been polarizing wank completely ignoring the element element involved.

I'm so sorry to hear how it's bad for pagans in Brazil -- especially in Brazil's largest city. :-(

You're right, suffering in silence doesn't work; tolerance can only begin when people are willing to take a stand. It doesn't have to be everybody who takes a stand, but if you get even a handful of strong people willing to take that step first, even if they have to fight for it, it will make things much easier for people later.

"but in practise, things really aren’t as open and accepting as is talked about in theory. "

same thing here. I'm so, so pissed because I spend the last 4 hours searching for activities to my students and looks like 90% of the teachers thinked it's all right in put religious stuff in the midlle of the laic school.

And I know next year, when I "come out" in my work place (because my son will start studying and I will not agree with christian stuff in his education), 1/3 of the people in that place will just stop to talk with me. One of the teachers that know I'm hellenic don't stay in a room alone with me - aparently, she thinks I will kill her or something.

But stay in silence with people harassing you never works. Some confrontation is important to start a true tolerance state. I will talk about this with the portuguese-only talkers, it's a great and valid discussion.
